For a long time now, speculations have been rife that Bhansali’s project which stars Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone and Shahid Kapoor was in trouble due to monetary issues. Initial reports suggested that both Viacom 18 and Eros International will produce it, but eventually the latter backed out. Finally, Viacom 18 is going ahead with the film.

Padmavati tells the tale of Alauddin Khilji, the second ruler of Khilji dynasty and his obsessive love for the queen of Mewar, Padmavati. While Ranveer will essay the role of Khilji, Deepika will play Padmavati. Shahid will be seen playing Deepika’s husband, Raja Ratansen in the film.

This is Ranveer and Deepika’s third collaboration with Bhansali after Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela (2013) and Bajirao Mastani (2015).
